INTJ - The Strategist

Temperament: Mastermind

About the INTJ Personality Type

INTJ is speculated to be the second rarest of the 16 Myers-Briggs types, next to INFJ.

INTJs can sometimes see the world like a game of chess.

They’re deep-thinkers and independent problem-solvers who can plan and strategize moves well into the future.

They have powerful intuition and imagination. Effective INTJs combine this with bottom-line, results-oriented thinking to achieve practical results.

This combination of intuitive and logical abilities can help them become successful scientists, inventors, doctors, marketers, teachers, executives and entrepreneurs amongst other things.

Many are known for being efficient and innovative, improving systems and processes in creative ways.

INTJ Traits

Independent Thinkers – INTJs like to figure out their own ways of doing things and it typically takes an extraordinary amount of trust for them to readily accept orders from anyone else.

Skeptical – INTJs are naturally good at finding flaws in conventional wisdom and in other people’s thought processes. This being the case, they may tend to mistrust ideas that they’re presented with unless they’re coming from a vetted source.

Strategic – INTJs use unconventional thinking, clarity on their desired outcome and calculating logic to exploit opportunities that other would likely miss.

Reserved – INTJs will rarely wear their hearts on their sleeves and rarely lose control of their emotions.

Cerebral – INTJs can spend a good deal of their time in their heads, examining deep topics and solving complex problems.

Creative – INTJs can be creative in many fields, including business, art, writing and politics.

Philosophical – INTJs tend to enjoy honest debates about the nature of reality and the world we live in.

Efficient – INTJs are uniquely equipped to find new ways to do things faster and with less effort.

Effectiveness-minded – INTJs don’t like to waste effort on things that don’t have a purpose, but many will work very hard at things they deem necessary to produce a desired outcome.

Future-oriented – INTJs spend a good deal of time thinking about the future and many are considered visionaries.

INTJ Challenges

Overthinking – They can be prone to analysis-paralysis, especially in situations that are outside their comfort zone.

Insensitivity – They can sometimes be unaware of or insensitive to the needs of others.

Stubbornness – They can sometimes dig their heels in, even if it’s unwarranted because of their independent nature and because they’re used to being right.

Small Talk – They tend to prefer deeper, more meaningful conversation and may be less comfortable with or interested in small talk.

Arrogance – Because they can often see things others can’t and because they’re rewarded for this, they may lose site of tact or undervalue what other people have to offer.
